The Power of Focus….

Why I Don’t Build 9 Programs Simultaneously…

Todd Falcone

You ever wonder why someone doesn’t make money in business? In network marketing?

You have any “friends” that are constantly onto the “next big thing”?
Do you know anyone who builds 3 programs simultaneously?

In my twenty year career in network marketing, there is not ONE SINGLE SOLITARY SOUL that I know who makes AT LEAST $10,000 a month that builds multiple deals.

I’m not saying that no one on planet earth exists that builds more than one program. But…what I am saying is this.

FOCUS is critical. Being LASER FOCUSED on something…ONE thing, is what produces the BIGGEST result. How big do you want your check to be?

If you think hedging your bets by building a nutritional company, a service company, offering prepaid legal, dental insurance, shampoos and coffee are going to lead you to the BIG money…you are MISTAKEN.

I will challenge ANYONE on this subject…anyone!

New To Copywriting? Start Here…

By Michel Fortin On October 28, 2009 NO COMMENTS

iStock 000008584445XSmall 150x150 New To Copywriting? Start Here...As part of my coaching program, students can ask me unlimited questions via email. One common question I seem to get is, “I’m new to copywriting, where do I start?”

Since my coaching students also get access to any of my digital programs, they also get access to my Copy Doctor website, where I share over 50 hours of salesletter and copy critiques, recorded on video. It’s a great start.

But one student said something that struck me:

“I learn better by doing than by watching. Is there anything you can recommend?”

Great question. Some people are more visual (they learn better by watching), some are more aural or auditory (by hearing), others are more kinesthetic (by doing or feeling). And I also thought it would be a great question to cover on my blog. So, here goes…

#1: Courses

If you want some basic guidance to get you started, there’s a course I recommend, which is

Welcome To Your Team Leaders

By hollypowell On October 27, 2009 NO COMMENTS

I knew one day I’d be using this domain for something important. It’s been in my mind exactly how I wanted to use it.

Now I have a reason. I took some time off from Network Marketing. I knew that I would again be active; but I just had not found the one that fit.

Those who know me know that I am NOT about blasting the best opportunity since sliced bread. I LOVE network marketing. I hate the stink of MLM. Let me explain.

I do NOT get into my comp plan comparisons. I will NOT argue that my comp plan is better than yours. I will not get on a soap box and scream at the top of my lungs; join me, join me.

I am a leader! Nobody needs to tell me that. I don’t need someone to pat me on the back and say, “Hey that Holly is a great

The Fortin Clan Photos

By Michel Fortin On October 25, 2009 NO COMMENTS

Fortin 09-40-20 #956 1 - 14x14A few weeks ago, we wanted to update our family photos since all our kids have grown up, and we wanted something more recent.

So we had a complete family photography session done by a local executive photographer, Luc St-Amour.

“Isn’t our family beautiful?” Says the proud dad. ;)

(When you compare these to the photos from our wedding, you can see how much they’ve grown. Now I really feel old!)

There’s my wife, Sylvie Fortin. The blond is my daughter Megan Malette (24 years old). The redhead is my daughter Céleste Coley Fortin (20). The brunette is my daughter Paige Coley Fortin (17). Last but not least there’s my son, Tyler Coley Fortin (16).

(By the way, did you know Sylvie’s birthday is on Halloween? Don’t tell her I told you, but this year she’s turning the big 4–0! But no matter what age, she’s as beautiful as ever.)

Obviously, I couldn’t wait to share these

7 Tips for Working with Your Web Designer

By Marj Wyatt On October 20, 2009 NO COMMENTS

1)  Be as clear as you can be and answer all questions

Web Designers are not mind readers.  During an initial interview, a developer may ask questions that make no sense to you but they are trying to scope the effort.  A good developer can advise you and make your concept better but they can’t make it up.  Put your ideas into writing so everyone is on the same page.  A website designer needs samples of sites that you’ve been attracted to or some sort of wireframe layout to start with.  Color choices matter so it helps to have some ideas about the colors that appeal to you, or a feeling you want the website to convey, so the designer can create a palette.

2)  Stick to the scope that you have defined

Website development is a process and not an event.  When you ask a designer to create a graphic

Give Your Testimonials a Reality Check

By Michel Fortin On October 14, 2009 NO COMMENTS

Caution Reality AheadAfter reading and re-reading the latest FTC guidelines, I’ve come to some important conclusions that I want to share with you. Particularly as they relate to testimonials.

Last night, my good friend and top copywriter John Carlton called me up, and we had an interesting discussion on this whole FTC thing and the hysteria it has created.

I expressed to John my opinions about them, along with a very simple solution. And John agreed with me.

It’s a huge benefit to those who understand copywriting, because they can actually turn around and use the FTC rulings to their advantage. Even make more sales as a result.

Part of the solution is actually simpler than you think. And it doesn’t involve tearing down all your testimonials, plastering a bazillion disclaimers around them, or conducting painful, mental contortions to decide what is typical or not.

You can start by doing this one simple thing…

Now, before I give you

Three Tips For Finding Top-Shelf Clients

By Michel Fortin On October 14, 2009 NO COMMENTS

Make yourself heardA student, who is an upcoming copywriter, recently asked where he could find clients willing to pay higher rates for his skills.

Having built a client base through networking on Internet forums geared towards start-up business owners, he now wanted to find opportunities that would allow for upward mobility within his craft.

This is a common scenario, because local and especially start-up businesses are easy to find, and provide plenty of opportunities to practice your emerging copywriting skills.

In a previous article, I talked about three tips for aspiring copywriters. I recommend any new copywriter to follow these three tips to start building a track record and get to a level that makes them appealing to higher-paying clients.

But after your copywriting skills are developed, however, it becomes desirable if not necessary to seek out clients — better, more lucrative clients — who are established enough to pay a fair wage for your skills and,

Custom Theme Quality Brings Praise

I also wanted to compliment you on your code. It’s very well laid out, and extremely easy for me to read and work with. Thank you for doing such a good job on that! I’m really excited to have such a clean theme to start with. You made it easy for me to take care of some of the tiny design tweaks myself.

9838 150x150 Disclosure Policy of The Michel Fortin BlogI deeply value my readers and subscribers, as much as they value me, my expertise, and my recommendations. For this reason, I try to be as open and forthright as possible.

I’m a big fan of disclosure. I believe in it. While I will make every attempt to disclose each time I make a recommendation on this blog, sometimes I can’t or I simply forget. So I’ve included an abbreviated form on the sidebar.

However, in an effort to be as clear and candid as possible, I’d like to post a more complete version, which highlights some of my relationships, the ways I am compensated, as well as the results I sometimes showcase on this blog.

Here they are…

Is This The End of Affiliate Marketing?

By Michel Fortin On October 7, 2009 NO COMMENTS

iStock 000009351815XSmall 150x150 Is This The End of Affiliate Marketing? The FTC finally published its revisions to the 1980 testimonial and endorsement rules. Some bloggers, copywriters, and marketers, even lawyers, have talked about this, sometimes a lot more eloquently than me.

It’s obvious the FTC’s intent is to curb, control, and go after those nefarious flogs (i.e., “fake blogs”), like Google Money and Acai Berry. But the language is left to be desired and, if not clarified, can lead to some serious repercussions.

Especially for affiliate marketers.

Based on what I’ve read, I can easily interpret “affiliates” and “vendors” falling in what the FTC dubs as “endorsers” and “advertisers.” (According to TechCrunch, the FTC has responded and clarified this somewhat, which I will come back to in a moment.)

In its new rulings, they make two powerful points. Points I agree with. At least, in intent. TechCrunch did a great job fleshing out the changes and its implications. The most important of which is the

Breaking This Copywriting Rule Boosts Profits

By Michel Fortin On October 7, 2009 NO COMMENTS

iStock 000008145844XSmall 150x150 Breaking This Copywriting Rule Boosts ProfitsThe other day I was asked the following question: “Should I use active or passive voice in sales copy?” My answer may surprise you.

The premise behind this question is simple. Traditional rules of good writing state that we should use active voice. When it comes to copywriting, it makes perfect sense.

For instance, active voice engages the reader and makes it easy for them to quickly understand the copy. They don’t have to sort through a sentence to understand it.

For those reasons, writers are told again and again to focus on using active voice. But I’m telling you that, in some cases, you shouldn’t. And here’s why…

Active voice is best for web content and in the body copy of a marketing piece. But passive voice can increase both readership and response because it front-loads important keywords, especially in headings, captions, bullets, and lead sentences.

There’s some interesting eyetracking research behind this theory, which reveals counter-intuitive

MyBusiness Manual – October/November 2009

prepaid legal plan is just what it sounds like: an arrangement that gives an employee access to the services of an attorney for a wide range of legal needs. Depending on the type of plan, the possibilities range from assistance in creating a will to contract negotiation to representation in divorce proceedings or for a major trial.

The number of employers offering prepaid legal plans to their employers is growing, but right now, it’s still pretty small. According to the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans’ Employee Benefits Survey: U.S. and Canada 2009, about a quarter of respondents say they offer a legal services plan to their participants. The Society for Human Resource Management conducted a similar employee benefits survey and found that about 21 percent offer legal services.

The benefit to the employees is fairly straightforward. “It gives people access to the legal system,” says
